Athletistry Studio was founded in a time when movement was locked down and the future of the arts was uncertain.
From very humble beginnings we have grown into an incredible community for adult and children's ballet classes located on Brisbane's south side.
Shane Wuerthner the creator of Athletistry Ballet is a Former Soloist with The Vienna State Opera, San Francisco Ballet, and Principal Artist with the Queensland Ballet.
His vision, and the mission of Athletistry Studio is to instil a love of ballet in young dancers and guide them to become professional artists as well as provide a space for adults to experience ballet firsthand.
Athletistry is the combination of art and athleticism. We aim is to help you find the art in your movement. Through holistic movement practices, dance, and a unique style of personal training we have helped people from all walks of life to find joy through increased mobility, less pain, more strength and renewed confidence.
Athletistry Studio Classes
With 5 classes currently being taught per week this is an exciting opportunity to return to ballet or experience it for the first time.
Athletistry Studio has an immersion philosophy to teaching ballet as we consider dance to be a language best learned by experiencing it.
We have adult student's ranging from 18-75. It is never too late to start and we would love to have you come along to a trial class!

Boys Strength, Movement and Dance
For Boys aged 4-8 we run a weekly class on Monday afternoons. This class is designed to introduce your child to the movement patterns of dance, strengthen the body through basic functional strength movements, and create a fun and exciting environment.
Jumping, turning, pushups, squats, posture and spacial awareness are just a few of the things boys will learn in this 45 minute class.
Introduction to Vaganova
Launching in term 1 2021, this class will take place 3 days a week for students wanting a strong introduction to dance through The Vaganova Ballet Technique.
Taught by Shane Wuerthner, a graduate of the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington DC. Young girls and boys will learn the basics of how to hold the body, pointe the feet, and prepare for a classical ballet education.
Class will be strictly limited to 9 participants so individual attention can be given.
Ballet Fundamentals For Children
Taught by the ballet technique queen of Brisbane, Marie-Claire D'Lyse, this one of a kind class will teach your 5-7 year old everything they need to become a confident little dancer.
Much like our boys class, but open to boys and girls alike, we will focus on how to pointe the feet, stretch your legs, turnout, and the proper positions of the feet, legs, and arms.
This class will begin in term 1 of 2021 and will run on Saturdays from 10:30-11:15.
Everything You Need to Improve
Private Ballet Coaching
You can now book an hour or half hour private ballet coaching session to work on technique, artistry or repertoire.
Hourly rates are $100/hour or $50/half hour.
Mobility and Stability Coaching
For adults and children it is so important to understand the essence of strength and flexibility. No you can work with award winning trainer, Shane Wuerthner, on improving your mobility and stability.

Athletistry Founder and Head Coach
Shane began is ballet training in his hometown of San Francisco and developed into an artist under the teaching of Anatoli Kucheruk at The Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington DC.
His Career spanned 3 continents and 12 years. Upon retirement as a principal dancer in 2017, Shane became a personal trainer and NLP coach. He founded Athletistry Ballet in 2019 and has the dream to create a unique movement space for adults encompassing ballet, yoga, mobility, strength, and mindset coaching. As well as create a school for children to learn and master the beautiful artform of ballet.
His mantra for life is "let's create beauty one tendu at a time"
Guest Teacher and Technique Coach
Marie-Claire got her start in dance right here in Brisbane under the watchful eye of Elsie Seguss.
Upon being offered the unique opportunity to travel to Vienna, Austria at the young age if 14, she embarked on what would be a 15 year career in ballet. Her Teacher in Vienna, Judith Reyn, instilled a love for artistry and technique that is rarely found in dancers today..
Now in her 5th year as a ballet coach, she has established herself as the technique queen of ballet in Brisbane and is a essential part of our team at Athletistry Ballet.
Lisa began her training at the age of 5 in her home town of Dubbo. After graduating from the Australian Ballet School in 1999 Lisa moved to Europe and danced with The Stadttheater St Gallen Switzerland, Anhaltishches Theater Dessau and Koblenz Stadttheater in Germany. Touring throughout Europe and Cuba.
In 2004 Lisa moved back to Australia and joined the Queensland Ballet. Lisa was promoted to Soloist in 2013 and Senior Soloist in 2016. During her time with QB Lisa performed many Principal and Soloist roles locally and internationally, was named dancer to watch and was the recipient of 2016 Dream Festival artist of the year.
Lisa has played an active part teaching in QB’s Education programs and also obtained her Diploma of Pilates movement therapy in 2017. Lisa retired from stage at the end of 2018 after an 18 year career.
Since retirement Lisa has taken up a position teaching Ballet and Body conditioning for Queensland Ballet Academy, has presented for QB’s Mind, Body, Ballet seminar, has guest taught and spoke throughout Australia and New Zealand and is the Patron for Dance Masters International.
Emily is a former lawyer turned yoga teacher, she has been practicing yoga since her first year of University in 1997 and it has been a constant companion through all of her adventures in life since. Yoga has become an essential tool for Emily to cultivate the calm mind, strong body and positive outlook she relies on to be the best version of herself.
Emily believes that the way we ‘do’ our yoga is the way we ‘do’ our life and that the lessons in discipline, humility, restraint, strength and awareness serve us both on the mat and in our every day.
Monday morning yoga classes have been thoughtfully sequenced for all levels of student to complement our ballet offering building strength, flexibility and concentration. You will also enjoy cultivating the skill of conscious relaxation as you let tension and stress melt away from your body, mind and soul.
Great classes for all abilities! Shane is a a very knowledgeable teacher who runs his classes professionally and efficiently. Will definitely be going regularly

It's very difficult to find a authentic Vaganova style ballet classes for young girls in Brisbane so she was so happy when we found them. They are so professional and my daughter learned alot from them. The atmosphere was very warm and she would definitely love to join the future workshop!

After a serious illness several years ago, I was left with chronic muscular tightness, tendonitis and mild arthritis. I was in chronic pain and unable to perform basic physical tasks.
Whilst remedial massage helped me to regain basic functionality, I struggled to find a form of exercise that would enhance the effects of the remedial therapy, but not result in injury or a resurgence of muscle stiffness.
I started personal training with Shane Wuerthner in October, 2020 and I can honestly say it has been transformative! Shane listened to my story and he then tailored a training programme specifically for me, which targeted improving my strength, mobility and flexibility. After three months working with Shane, I am now more flexible, stronger and leaner!
Shane’s combined background, as a dancer and a personal trainer, means he is able to identify areas of strength and weakness within the body, and design bespoke programmes accordingly.
Also, Shane has a deep personal interest in health and physical fitness which means he is constantly familiarising himself with the latest research in the field.
I can thoroughly recommend personal training with Shane Wuerthner, particularly if you are struggling to recover from illness, injury or a long period of inactivity.
